Meet Steve Wynn
He's a billionaire casino magnate, a major funder of conservative causes and candidates, and DOJ is suing him for lobbying President Trump as an agent of China, and he's pushing Republicans to lie about Democrats' IRS funding.
You've probably heard the GOP fear-mongering about "an army" of "87,000 armed IRS agents" coming after the middle class. It's all lies.
It's part of a well-funded, coordinated attempt to protect rich tax cheats from being audited and influence the midterms.
Last month, the RNC called its billionaire donors into an emergency fundraising meeting. Wynn took the opportunity to ask if there were dark money groups that could hide his donations, but he also advocated for GOP candidates to lie about the IRS.
Republicans, Wynn said, should run ads claiming Democrats and the IRS are "coming after you if you’re a waiter, if you’re a bartender..." Wynn is one of the corporate billionaires likely to face higher scrutiny thanks to increased funding for the IRS to catch wealthy tax cheats.
The lie has been parroted by the likes of Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rick Scott. It's being fed to millions. But Wynn's embrace of the lie reveals who Republicans are really protecting—the richest 1% who avoid paying $160 billion a year that they owe.
When we say billionaires are operating in the shadows, manipulating our elections, and buying our democracy, Steve Wynn is exactly who we're talking about.
